Continuous Improvement in Ecological Environment. Water quality maintained in the same level as in 2005, particularly in Huangpu River. There’s no obvious difference in water quality between the upper reach and lower reach of Suzhou Creek. Good-air quality rate reached 88.8%. SO , NO and inhalable particulate per day annually have been reduced by 10%, 16% and 2% respectively. Acoustic environment has been improved slightly. The average equivalent sound level for the regional noise and traffic noise were lower than those in 2005. As to ambient radiation, there was no abnormal changes.

The concentration of radioactive nuclide in the media was within the normal range. Power Frequency Electric Field and Power Frequency Magnetic Field, as well as Electric Field Strength were in the range of natural background level.
In 2006, 808 ha. green space was expanded so that the greenery coverage rate reached to 37.3% 2 and green space per capita was 0.5 m more than that in 2005. In Chongming Island, there are 34,000 mu. woods newly planted. The public woods reach 13,000 mu in suburban areas and 160 ha. in the outer ring.

Minhang District is constructed as a National Eco-district and Pudong New District is built as National Environmental Demonstration District.
