Ecoenvironmental Quality Further Improved

The environmental data monitored in 2007 showed that generally, the ecoenvironmental quality in Shanghai was stable and tended to be better. There are 328days evaluated as good-air quality(defined when city¡¯s air quality index reaches Grade ¢ò or better) ,four days more than in 2006, the good-air quality rate was 89.9% and hitting an all-time high in the history record. The annual daily average of SO2 and NO2 was 10% and 16% lower than those in 2006. The rates of good- air quality days in most districts (county) also went up in 2007. While large-scale urban construction was being undertaken, dust fall in entire city averaged 8.0 tons / km2 per month, remaining at the same level as in 2006.? The surface water quality within the municipality kept unchanged, while the water quality in most key waterways which had been dredged remained almost the same as in 2006 and the black and stinky sections of water body reduced, e.g. the water quality in the dredged river courses in Songjiang and Nanhui were 14.1% and 7.7% better than in 2006.? The levels of regional ambient noise in different functional areas have all met respective standards; both the equivalent sound levels of regional ambient noise at night and traffic noise at daytime were lower than those in 2006.? No abnormal changes have been monitored in ambient radiation.? The intensity of all radioactive nuclides in the environmental medium was at normal level and no special changes were found against the background of ambient electromagnetic radiation.? The electric field at industrial frequency, the intensity of magnetic induction at industrial frequency and the intensity of composite electric field in the circumambience of major equipment releasing electromagnetic radiation were all within the reference limits recommended in ¡°Technical Standards of the Evaluation of the Influences over Environment by Electromagnetic Radiation of 550K-Volt Electricity Transmission and Transformation Project¡± (HJ/T24¡ª1998) and met the relevant rules provided in ¡°Regulations for Protection of Electromagnetic Radiation¡± (GB8702¡ª88).

In 2007 the total area of new greens amounted to 1,186 acres, of which, 592 hectares were of public greens.? By the end of 2007, green area has covered 37.6% of the city and the per capita area of public green was 12 square meters. 11,000 mu of land in the suburbs were newly afforested for public interest. 172 hectares of land outside the outer circular highway were used for special ecological projects.

A ¡°State-class Ecological Industrial Park¡± has been established in Xinzhuang Industrial Zone Shanghai.? Seven townships including Zhujiajiao and Zhaoxiang in Qingpu District, Huangdu in Jiading District, Gucun in Baoshan District, and Huamu, Jinqiao and Zhangjiang in Pudong New Area were named ¡°National Township with Beautiful Environment¡±.
