The first session of “GMS Environment Ministers Meeting” was held in Shanghai. The cooperation projects between Shanghai and Italy have made progress with total investment of 5.52 million Euro. Indicator system for sustainable development, sponsored by Shell Co. Ltd., has been completed successfully. Initiatives for environmental friendly city of Shanghai sponsored by United Nations Development Programme and United Nations Environmental Programme has began.

103 groups of 473 persons from foreign countries and international organizations paid visits to Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau in 2005. 29 groups of 115 persons of SEPB visited countries such as Italy, U.K., Germany for training, technical exchange and research. 5 groups of 7 foreign experts came to Shanghai, addressing technical training programs or participating in local scientific researches.
