Environmental Management

(3)Environmental Monitoring

Activities for environmental monitoring proceeded in 2005 covered the sectors of surface water, air, noise, biota, radioactivity and etc. A total of 3.41 million data reflecting environmental quality had been collected, of which, 3.26 million data were obtained through automatic monitoring system. In terms of the type of data, 86,400 ones were routine data of water quality, 22,800 ones were of air quality, and the rest 45,900 were of noise, biota and radioactivity.

Other types of monitoring activities were also conducted, such as monitoring on total volume of inflow pollutants, biological status of aquatic ecology, water quality in drinking water sources, organic substances flowed from upstream rivers. In addition, a series of lab study on eco-recovery in Suzhou Creek, eutrophication status in DianshanLake were proceeded based on biocoenology monitoring data. The environmental monitoring agencies in Shanghai participated in the water quality monitoring activities for National Offshore Network, Yangtze River Network and Taihu Lake Network.

166 major pollution sources were monitored for checking the registered emission. 260 spot checks were conducted and about 17,500 data were obtained, of which, 6000 data were about wastewater and 11,500 ones were about industrial kilns, waste gas.
